I get random bouts of inspiration to draw cherubs. I like drawing wings and feathers, so a large, somewhat fluid thing a ma bob's very appealing. Though less helpful when you're working your butt off to get chapter 1 stuff done, not chapter....fuck... probably 60 or so (merging the two books) stuff done. Also this got inspired by a moderately lit room, which i dunno how that works.
This particular cherub (Saying exactly who this is does happen to spoil quite a lot of the second novel's tension, so go read it if you want to find out) is especially fun to draw. Exceptionally long and lean, the character mostly stays sorta frumped in a ball to appear less huge. Our sweet cherub here is essentially doomed, and they know it, which is an interesting concept to explore. Second books is pretty much about dying, about fading from existence, and about fear. Less about "OMG, who am I" and more "Why have i done this and what am I supposed to do" strung together with humor and brevity.
It was a blast to write, basically- and very revealing about my own fears and ambitions. Go fig.
Either way, I did this as a break. Wanted a new background. De-Stressed from a long day. Good times had by all.
