Chapter 44

Bouncing from wave to wave, I shot westward with enough velocity to peel the paint off a house.  Felt like the first breaths i'd ever taken, truly felt born again.  I could just barely see my own feet, working so fast it shouldn't be possible. Compared to dragging my worn, broken body a mile took me about four hours or so to do, I think I earned the right to feel excessively overjoyed at gaining my energy and vitality back, something at least twice what it had been.  It was wonderful, utterly wonderful- and I was only just running.

Chapter 43:

Drowned, drenched in that blackness, that nonexistence, a single memory drifted by. It wasn't entirely important, it wasn't even all that relevant or dear to me. It was one last good shudder of thought, one last, random notion in the back of my head to keep me warm, to show me life, once more time.  Cradling it, holding it as a fragile, delicate thing, the memory expanded to the limits of my vision, filling my head with life.
